Importing organic fertilizers
If you want to import such organic material from EU countries, you may need a plant passport to accompany the products.
If you want to import such products from non-EU countries, you need a phytosanitary certificate to accompany the product. In many cases, import is not allowed at all.
If you want to import such products for scientific purposes, you may get an import licence from the Board of Agricultre even for products normally subject to import ban or phytosanitary certificate requirements.
If your firm commercially imports such products from non-EU countries, it must be registered at the Board of Agriculture. Upon registration the firm receives an official registration number.
For more information, please contact the Plant Protection Service at the Board of Agriculture.
You need a licence from the Board of Agriculture in order to import manure, meat and bone meal, processed animal protein not intended for human consumption, or similar animal by-products.
You also need to make sure that the product is transported directly from the production plant in the exporting country to an approved production plant in Sweden.
The restrictions do not apply to import of blended products, only partly made of animal by-products and ready to be used as organic fertilisers.
Our Feed Quality Division can provide more information on the restrictions.
You may also need to register the product with the Swedish Chemical Agency.
