The import requirements for dogs and cats from non-EU countries vary depending on whether the animal comes from a listed country or not. A country is listed if it has an effective rabies control system. Unlisted countries have a rabies situation that either is not under control or is impossible to evaluate. There is a larger risk that animals from such countries may bring rabies.
