The National Environmental Protection Agency

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the central authority under the Swedish Government. According to our instructions, laid down by the Government, our main tasks are to coordinate and promote environmental work on both a national and international level.

Regarding genetically modified organisms (GMOs), the EPA has a coordinating and consultative role in relation to the supervisory authorities. These authorities consult with the EPA e.g. when issuing regulations and when taking decisions on deliberate release.

As a user of gene technology, you can turn to the EPA English website länk till annan webbplats for general information on GMOs or the Swedish GMO legislation.
